A Visit to Lake Moab [/ə ˈvɪzɪt tɪ ˈleɪk ˈmoʊæb/] n - I love the cooling breeze of the lake as I sit at its banks and make my first drawing in a long while, which I did with a sharpie. I am glad of how it turned out, having not drawn in over 10 years. To linger by the water, carefully mapping the ridges of the mountain and shading the river and trees with so immobile an instrument as a sharpie, was a challenge; yet it let me remain and draw the whole of the place.
Drawing ever teaches me to mark the fine details in all things, and leaves me grateful, immersed in the present moment. I was there 2 hours, and saw many passers-by out upon their canoes and kayaks, enjoying the fair weather and calm waters, each making a tiny, nameless contribution to my work, which gladdens me. I enjoyed too the small conversations, most now forgotten, writing as I do a year after the events; and when I look upon this sketch and my sketchbook, I wish only to make more sketches and meet more people.
